A Look Back at the Remarkable Game Between the Heat v Clippers Last Night!

Wednesday night’s Heat v Clippers match was undoubtedly one of the most exciting, and satisfying, games of the season, and you can bet the Voice of Miami was avidly watching. The nail-biting game ended with the Heat taking the lead for a very close 116-112. The Heat had lost 10 of their previous 12 road games against the Clippers and hadn’t beaten them at Staples Center since Dec. 9, 2007, but this game turned that streak around.

It was the Heat up 18 early, up seven at halftime, back up by double digits in the third and then in a fight to the finish in the fourth. The Miami Heat played the final minutes the way championship teams are supposed to: LeBron James had 31 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds, Ray Allen hit a clinching 3-pointer in the final minute, and the Heat snapped a five-game road losing streak against the stubborn Clippers for the win.

Miami’s ball movement was superb from the outset, with the Heat recording assists on all but one of their first 18 field goals and building a 43-24 lead with 9:44 left in the second quarter. The Heat had 33 assists on 41 field goals overall.

“We pride ourselves on moving the ball, and we know that makes it easier for all of us,” James said. “We keep everyone in a rhythm when we’re passing the ball and sharing the ball.”

Wednesday night’s 116-112 victory at Staples Center was just the first stop of a six-game trip that won’t have the Heat back at American Airlines Arena until Feb. 23, but about the only thing that likely will be as entertaining in the interim is the four-day break for the All-Star Game.

The Miami Heat Honored at the White House

The Miami Heat were honored at the White House on Tuesday, January 14th, for the 2013 NBA Champions’ second consecutive title.

“Last season, the Heat put together one of the most dominating regular seasons ever by a defending champion,” President Obama said. “They won a team-record 66 games. At one point, they won 27 games straight — the second-longest winning streak ever.”

The President congratulated head coach Eric Spoelstra, team president Pat Riley, and members of the staff and crew, and gave a special congrats to the all-star Heat lineup for their hard work last season including finals MVP Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Ray Allen, Chris Bosh, Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier, Udonis Haslem, and Chris Anderson.

As if you needed more reason to love our local team, the team is known for promoting and generating funds for local charities. “The Heat showed us the kind of heart and determination it takes to be a champion,” the President said. “And they also showed what heart means off the court.” Last year, the team raised close to $2 million for local charities. And today, while at the White House, players met with wounded warriors from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

“So bottom line is, outstanding athletes, outstanding organization, outstanding team, but also outstanding members of their community. And so we’re very proud to have them back. We wish them great luck for the rest of the season, unless they’re playing the Bulls,” stated President Obama during his speech, garnering some laughs from the crowd.

After President Obama’s remarks, Coach Spoelstra presented the President with an honorary trophy signed by the entire team and a jersey. The President, a longtime Bulls fan, joked “You know, you guys are winning me over a little bit.”

“The energy and the atmosphere at a game, every little bit helps, and Mike has that captivating voice.” -Heat forward James Jones

“To Heat fans, he is one of the reasons Miami Heat games are so much fun to go to. He is there to excite the Miami Heat fans, not for the fans of the other teams.” -Brandon L.

“…You would love Baiamonte. His screaming antics are 1/4 of what makes the game awesome to diehards. There’s a lot of emotional attachment to his voice. When he yells practically opera-style at one of our players’ successes, or when he grumbles and mumbles an opponent’s name in such a low, surly voice that you can’t even understand what he just said… it’s like watching basketball with a fanatical bipolar friend. Nothing could be better.” –Janine O.
